Oha, Zola Jesus (aus Los Angeles USA) in München. Da wollte ich im September ins Berghain nach Berlin (zur Spezialshow für das neue Album Conatus), was nicht geklappt hat, aber zum Glück kam die Dame heuer hier vorbei. Das Orangehouse war gut besucht und Rock The Cam gespannt. Mit Metallschlagzeuger und 3 weiteren Jungs an Keyboards und/oder Laptops war die Bühne gut gefüllt. Dann Auftritt Roza Danilova, genannt Zola Jesus, wer ist denn das? Eine kleine, zierliche Person, Mischung Elfe und gefallener Engel kommt und singt. Diese Stimme, genial, aber irgendwie bekommt mein Hirn das nicht gebacken, dass dies von der verhuschten Dame auf der Bühne kommt. Barfuß ist Zola Jesus unterwegs, singt und tanzt sich ein. Zwischendurch ein Spaziergang im Publikum, wildes Head banging und links – rechts auf der Bühne. War beeindruckend. Die Musik hat mir auch getaugt, klingt etwas nach früher, mit einem Touch Goth und Wave, was ich ja auch mag und nochmals hervorzuheben: diese Stimme. Großer Auftritt hier von Zola Jesus.
Yeah, Zola Jesus from L.A. – USA in Munich. Unfortunately I did not make it to her show in Berlin in September, but fortunately this November day she was around in Munich. The Orangehouse was crowded and Rock The Cam was a bit excited. A metal guy on drums and three other dudes on laptops and keyboards and spot on, here comes Roza Danilova known as Zola Jesus. Strange, this person and this voice, somehow I do not get it connected. Like an elf, a fallen angel she came kind of misplaced on the stage. Barefoot she did her performance. Singing, dancing and later some head banging, she went for a while from left to right and from right to left like a caged tiger and did an excursion through the audience. Cool, I liked it. As well the music from Zola Jesus (new album called Conatus) did please me, kind of older wave goth sound and this voice! A nice, lasting and impressing gig.
Cutz & Mouse ist eine Münchner Band (Anika Beck, Simon Kummer, Benjamin Hüttner und Philipp Kummer) die trotz Elektronikgefrickel mit echtem Schlagzeuger unterwegs ist (was ja für eine Band spricht). Hat mir trotzdem nicht wirklich getaugt, das für mich Beste Stück vom Cutz & Mouse Konzert war ein Instrumentalstück, der Rest irgendwie komisch. Wenn dann auch der Typ mitsingt wurde es eher noch bescheidener. Nicht mein Musikstil.
The band Cutz & Mouse is Anika Beck, Benjamin Hüttner, Philipp Kummer and Simon Kummer. Coming from Munich they play kind of electronic stuff, although using a real drummer. The music from Cutz & Mouse is not my kind and when the guy joins in with his voice it makes things worse. Not my cup of tea.

Aus Portland kamen Sean Flinn als Vorband von Herman Dune ins Ampere nach München. Und von der Musik her hat es gepasst, ruhiger, melodiöser Gitarren Pop Rock. Nicht aufdringlich, nicht effekthaschend, sondern immer mit beiden Beinen im Schönen. Die Platte von Sean Flinn, welche live vorgestellt wurde heißt: Write Me A Novel.
Quite and melodic guitar pop rock, that was how Sean Flinn made the impression to me, when I was able to catch them at the Ampere in Munich. Sean Flinn are coming from Portland USA and were presenting their album Write Me A Novel while touring through Germany with Herman Dune.
Auch schon ne Weile unterwegs und ja dementsprechend war das Publikum auch etwas gesetzter: Samiam aus der San Francisco Bay Area – USA. Zum Konzerteln ins Feierwerk gekommen sind die 5 Herren (Jason Beebout, Sergie Loobkoff, Johnny Cruz, Sean Kennerly + Billy Bouchard) und am Anfang war es noch so „OK spielen wir halt unser Programm“, aber zum Glück sind Samiam dann aufgetaut. Somit war es nicht nur schön, sondern hat auch echt Spaß gemacht. Der Drummer mit richtig Drive und die Gitarrenarbeit – herrlich! Gelernt hab ich auch noch was bei den Diskussionen zwischen den Lieder, nämlich:
Sometimes I don’t wipe my ass – why waste the paper when you sit down and it just makes puhhh
Today I was able to catch Samiam from Berkely USA. They are around for quite a while (since 1988) and somehow the audience at the Feierwerk in Munich was not the youngest. The Samiam concert started OK, but at the beginning it was a bit role play (band performing – audience looking). Fortunately at the middle of the gig the band woke up and I had the impression that from this moment on it was not just „let’s do another gig“ but it was fun for them as well. I mean the music is great including songs from the new album Trips (out on Hopeless Records), a drummer with drive and the guitars – nice; yeah and then the feeling „they like what they do“ combined with their great songs and inclusive the stupid discussion on stage between the songs, it was good fun. Thanks Samiam for the night together.
