Patrick O’Sullivan 08.05.2011 Barossa Garden Chiclana de la Frontera

Da steh ich in Spanien vor der Bahn und komme mit 2 Irländerinnen ins Gespräch und dies beschert Rock The Cam ein Konzert und Fotos in Novo Santi Petri (Chiclana de La Frontera). Also mal souverän ins Hotel Barrosa Park einmaschiert und am Poolside Patrick o‘ Sullivan angeschaut. Ein Typ mit Akkordeon und vorprogrammierter Begleitmusik. Große Hits und mir unbekannte Lieder gab es. Aber hey, ich war positiv überrascht, Patrick o‘ Sullivan hat alles mit einem irischen Touch gespielt, dabei El Viva Espagna eingebaut und auch ein Johnny Cash Medley vorgetragen. Noch nie was von dem Herrn o‘ Sullivan zuvor gehört, doch es waren bestimmt so 150 Leute da. Gemütlich im Schatten oder in der Sonne gehockt, Mittags die Biere reingezischt, dann hat Patrick zum Tanzen aufgefordert und es ging was! Einige vor der Bühne abgegrooved, fast alle mitgeklatscht, mitgesungen, yeah Patrick o‘ Sullivan (der irische Barde) hatte das 55+ Publikum fest im Griff. Zugegeben, mit dem Ganzen drumherum hat es auch mir gut gefallen.

I met two Irish girl at the train and this brought me to a concert in Novo Santi Petri (Chiclana de La Frontera – Spain) and some live concert photos right out of Andalucia. So I went to the Barrosa Park Hotel to see the gig from Patrick O‘ Sullivan at the Poolside. He was singing and playing his accordeon while there was as well background music from the computer. Played some famous tunes and songs I did not know. All with an Irish touch and as well a Johnny Cash Medley was included – hey I liked it. Not only Rock The Cam but as well about 150 other people. All drinking their beers in the shadow or directly in the hot Spanish afternoon sun. Patrick o‘ Sullivan knew how to rock: some danced in front of the stage, most joined in with clapping the rythum or singing with him. And like mentioned before not only the 55+ audience was pleased, also Rock The Cam enjoyed the whole setting and Patrick o‘ Sullivan live on stage and Paul Claffey Tours in association with Walsh Tours made it possible!

Embryo 22.05.2010 KLANGfest München


Embryo

Eine beständige, aber sich dauernd ändernde Musikgruppe: Embryo aus München. Seit 40 ? Jahren auf der Welt unterwegs, waren Embryo die Band, welche nach Jimi Hendrix letztem Konzert in Fehmarn (Love-and-Peace-Festival) spielten. Hier in München begann das Embryo-Konzert im Carl-Orff-Saal mit einer Bluesnummer von Karl Ludwig. Dann ging der relaxte drogengeschwängerte Tripp durchs Morgenland los. Freedom In Music halt. Das Embryo Kollektiv umfasste beim KLANGfest-Auftritt auf der Bühne im Carl-Off-Saal: Christian Burchard, seine Tochter Marja Burchard, Lothar Stahl, Valentin Altenberger und Thomas Gundermann.

Here we go on the freedom of music. This time with Embryo, a music group which is around for more than 40 years. They have played for example with Jimi Hendrix and today for RTC. Dover 08.02.2009 Backstage München


Dover

Die Musik bei Dover hat sich schon ein wenig geändert, hin zum Pop mit Elektrospielereien, doch live tut dies kein Abbruch, OK für meinen Geschmack sind die alten Songs als pure Rocknummern schon eine Spur besser. Aber was die Llanos Schwestern und mit-Dover-Jungs im Backstage zu München zeigten, passte zu dem Spruch von Cristina (Sängerin): I swear to god, this is what we live for, to play for you guys! Einfach eine überzeugende Liveband und hier die Bilder vom spanischen Dover.

After 5 years Dover were back in Germany. The show took place at the Backstage in Munich and the Llanos sisters plus their rhythm section played a tight set. There is more pop in the music and the electro sound makes all songs more groovy, although I prefer the old material as straight rock songs. Good to have them back and enjoy the Dover Munich photos.

Ich glaube es immer noch nicht, ich durfte DK Hits wie „California über alles“ von Jello Biafra gesungen, live miterleben! Ein glücklicher Zufall brachte mich nach Brescia (Italien) auf das Festa di Radio Onda d’Urto. Dort spielten Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine. Deren Lieder kannte ich noch nicht (die Platte namens The Audacity of Hype kommt erst noch raus), aber live klang es wie ein Mix aus LARD und Dead Kennedys. Den Sound machten Jan Weiss (Schlagzeug), dessen Bruder Andrew Weiss (Bass), Kimo Ball (Gitarre) und Ralph Spight (Gitarre). Und dazu natürlich diese eigene Stimme von Eric Reed Boucher (oder besser bekannt als Jello Biafra). Gleich zu Beginn ließ Herr Biafra den Absperraum vor der Bühne öffnen und später ließ sich die US Punklegende dann von den Stagedivern anstecken und sprang selber in die Menge. Die Setlist enthielt auch ein paar Dead Kennedys Klassiker und der Mob dankte es. Zwischen den Liedern gab es politische Ansagen und Anregungen zum Nachdenken.
Der Auftritt war ein echtes Highlight und ich hoffe mein Konzertfotos auch!!!
Unter anderem gab es die Lieder: New Feudalism / The Terror Of Tinytown / Electronic Plantation / California Über Alles / Three Strikes / Dot Com Monte Carlo / Holiday In Cambodia / Police Truck / I Won’t Give Up

Welcome to Brescia! Unbelievable, through a lucky coincidence I was able to make it to Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine playing at the festa di radio onda d’urto in Brescia (Italy). And it was amazing what Kimo Ball (Guitar), Jan Weiss (Drums), Ralph Spight (Guitar), Andrew Weiss (Bass) and Jello Biafra (Voice) were performing on stage. A really great concert. lots of songs I did not know (from their upcoming new album The Audacity Of Hype) and happy me and happy Brescia audience, some old Dead Kennedys hits. Mr. Biafra did his stage acting and after having a lots of stage divers around, he jumped into the audience himself. Leatherface 21.04.2010 Feierwerk München


Leatherface

Am Mittwochabend spielten Leatherface aus England im Feierwerk in München, mit dabei: Ihrer neuen Platte The Stormy Petrel . Frankie Stubbs mit Seemannsbart hatte wohl schon vorgefeiert und machte einen leicht angeschlagenen Eindruck. Irgendwie kommt mir Herr Stubbs wie ein räudiger Straßenköter vor, wie er so auf der Bühne steht und dann mit seiner rauchigen Reibeisenstimme seine Lieder vorträgt und genau das ist es was mir auch an Leatherface gefällt! Hat so eine Art von etwas Kaputten, ich nenne es einfach mal Punk Rock. Nicht siffig, aber authentisch und nicht glattgebügelt. Leatherface sind schon eine ganze Weile unterwegs, doch den Durchbruch haben sie nie geschafft, eigentlich schön, denn so sind die Konzerte immer etwas familiäres, obwohl ich den Jungs um Frankie Stubbs den Erfolg gönnen würde. Und dann würden auch viele Teeniemädchen mich total toll finden, da ich ja Leatherface Konzertfotos auf Rock The Cam habe.

Good to see Frankie Stubbs again, cause seeing Frankie Stubbs again means seeing Leatherface live! And although Leatherface are around since years, they never were the hype. To me this is good cause this means seeing them at small clubs and sharing the gig with people who like them not the ones who only came around because right now it is hip. Enough talking, loved it and here are the Leatherface live in Munich concert pix.

THE STROKES – Under Cover Of Darkness – RCA

Comeback 7″ Single nach einigen Jahren und als Limited vinyl edition auch als Beipack im Musikexpress. Ob die Strokes nach dieser Pause noch relevant sind? Waren die Herren jemals relevant? Die Platten sind gut, aber dass die so durch die Decke gegangen sind habe ich nie verstanden. Die A-Seite hat das Lied Under Cover Of Darkness und dieses ist ganz einfach ein Strokes‘ Song. Gitarre, etwas Dreck, gute Struktur und Melodie und dann auch die typische Julian Casablanca’s Stimme: korrekt. Auf der B-Seite dann You’re So Right, das klingt anders! Jetzt wird’s spannend. Irgendwie Elektrosound mit dunklem New Wave Einschlag (was auch immer das sein mag, hehehe) und dann isses auch schon wieder vorbei.

The Strokes are back and a new limited edition 7″ vinyl single comes alone with the music magazin musikexpress. That is a nice goodie – vinyl rules!
Side A has the song Under Cover Of Darkness and it is a typical Strokes‘ song. Guitar, bit of garage, good structure and the voice of Julian Casablanca’s – yes a typical The Strokes‘ song. On the B-side however is You’re So Right and this really pricked up my ears, cause this is different. OK on a single B-side you can experience but still not everybody does it (and I think the song is even on the Angles LP). You’re So Right sound like electro, kind of dark New Wave (and now try to figure out what dark New Wave is, hehehe).
