Als Appétit Happen fürs neue Nada Surf Album, eine Records Store Day 7″ Single mit zwei Liedern: ”The Moon Is Calling” und “You’re Going To Miss The Wood”, beide in einer Demo Version, welche aber OK sind. Schöner Rock (wird dies noch Alternativ genannt?), mit Schwung und Melodie. Gerade auch auf Tour im Lande, ach ja und die limitierte Platte hat noch einen Download Code dabei.

Und eine weiterer 7″ vinyl Single, welche hier und jetzt eine kurze Vorstellung bekommt: Wilco mit „I Might“ und auf der B-Seite „I Love My Label„. Die A-Seite mit „I Might“ ist ein Indie gute Laune Gitarren Stück, läuft durch und macht Spaß, läuft noch ein paar Mal durch und macht immer noch Spaß. Die andere Seite mit „I Love My Label“ ist ein Cover von Nick Low. Das klingt nach Amirock, nicht schlecht, aber auch nicht der Überhit. Bin da nicht so bewandert, aber so Tom Petty Schiene gebe ich als Anhaltspunkt. Inklusive Download Code der zwei Lieder.

Another 7″ vinyl single gets free advertisement on Rock The Cam, this time it is Wilco with „I Might“ / „I Love My Label“. The a-side is a nice, groovy good mood guitar indie song, I like it while listening to it the first time and several plays later I still like „I Might„. On the flip is a cover from Nick Low called „I Love My Label“ which is not bad but as well not the hit. Inclusive free mp3 download of both songs, nice.

ZOLA JESUS – Conatus – Souterrain Transmission

Nachdem ich die Dame (Nika Roza Danilova alias Zola Jesus) zum Glück live sehen durfte ist nun Ihr Album dran. Zola Jesus mit Ihrem dritten Langspieler namens Conatus. Schönes Klappcover und schönes buntes Vinyl, farblich passend zu den Fotos auf der Plattenhülle plus ein weiterer Pluspunkt: mit Downloadcode. Was bei der Musik von Zolas Jesus heraussticht ist diese Ausnahmestimme, einfach mächtig Ihr Organ. Der Gesang kommt zur Geltung über elektronischer Musik, die manchmal ruhiger und manchmal unruhiger ist. Synthiesound der mich an Darkwave / Gothic erinnert, doch nicht auf früher gemacht, sondern modern. Gefällt mir.

ZOLA JESUS - Conatus - Souterrain Transmission

Nika Roza Danilova known as Zola Jesus made a new record which is called Conatus. Nice Gatefold Cover and the vinyl is colored (white marbled) fitting the look of the cover. A download code is included in this Souterrain Transmission version which is another positive point. The music itself is electronic synthesizer sound, kind of modern dark wave / gothic. And over all there is this incredible voice of Zola Jesus. The songs have a touch of dark but not cold vibrations and the vocals are taking you into a spiral which drowns you into a whirlpool of strange but warm feelings. I like this Zola Jesus output!

Und eine weitere Against Me! 7″ Single. Diese hat zwei Lieder darauf. „Occult Enemies“ ist ein typisches Against Me! Stück, die Gitarre, Tom Gabel’s Gesang, Druck und Melodie. „Russian Spies“ ist na ja, zum Schluss nervt es, da kein Ende gefunden und ständig wiederholt wird.

AGAINST ME! - Russian Spies / Occult Enemies 7

One more Against Me! 7″ vinyl single including two songs. Side A „Occult enemies” is a typical Against Me! song, Tom Gabel’s voice, guitar sound, some pressure paired with melody. The B side does not hold that level, the more I listen to it, the more it annoys me, I can’t stand it when there is no end and the same refrain gets repeated and repeated.

BAD RELIGION – The Dissent Of Man – Epitaph

Alte Helden, neue Alben, immer ein schweres Thema. Wie viel gute und wie viel schlechte Stunden hat man schon in Begleitung mit der Musik von Bad Religion verbracht? Und zu diesen Gefühlen/Erinnerungen soll was Neues dazu? Ja, denn sonst hätte ich mir die The Dissent Of Man von den Herren Brett Gurewitz, Greg Graffin, Jay Bentley, Greg Hetson, Brooks Wackerman und Brian Baker nicht kaufen brauchen! Es geht los mit zwei / drei Liedern die so ähnlich wie früher klingen (eigentlich wie das meiste Bad Religion Zeugs), dann gibt es eine langsamere Nummer (klingt wie Radio) und dann wird es wieder schneller. Noch so eine Art Ballade gibt es auch, welche mich aber nicht wirklich überzeugt. Gute Produktion, irgendwie typische Bad Religion Songs mit Melodie, intelligente Texte und den berüchtigten Ahhhhhhs und Ohhhhhs. Es beschleicht mich das Gefühl, dass die B-Seite nicht ganz an die A-Seite rankommt. Das war garantiert kein Fehlkauf aber Suffer und No Control sind halt einfach Suffer und No Control. Jetzt noch wichtige Sammlerscheiße, die CD war mit dabei, sehr löblich:

BAD RELIGION - The Dissent Of Man - Epitaph

Old heroes, new albums, it is always a difficult thing. How many good and how many bad hours did you spend accompanied by the music of Bad Religion? And now adding new stuff to all these memories and feelings? Yes, if not why did I purchase „The Dissent Of Man“ from Greg Graffin, Jay Bentley, Brett Gurewitz, Brian Baker, Greg Hetson and Brooks Wackerman?
The new Bad Religion LP starts with some songs which sound like old stuff (although Bad Religion always sounds like some other songs of them – some say it is always the same some, just a bit different – fortunately I like this song) then there is some kind of Radio-song. When Bad Religion hits the speed it just fits better to them. I prefer the A-side and after several runs I can say it was no mistake purchasing the record, but Suffer and No Control were there before and are the milestones of Bad Religion.

Schöne 7″ Single auf Gutfeeling. Auch der Inhalt passt, Junior Disorder spielen so einen Garagen Surf Mix mit einer dunklen Note. Auf der Black Rose Scheibe gibt es 2 Songs (Black Rose + Garage Surf Party) und beim beiliegenden Downloadcode kann man nochmals 6 andere dazu holen.

Nice 7″ vinyl from the label Gutfeeling. Even the content fits. Junior Disorder performing 2 garage surf songs with a dark note. And together with the included download you get another 6 songs. My favourite is the eponym: black rose.

RIVAL SCHOOLS – Pedals – Photo Finish Records

Schwarzes Vinyl, ich glaube eine limited to 2000 Stück Version, dann gibt es noch 500 Stück Picture Disk Running Man Logo und nochmals 500 Stück Picture Disk namens Album Art.
Schön schweres Vinyl und auf der Cover-Rückseite ist dufte folgendes draufgedruckt: „fbi anti-piracy warning: bla bla bla“. Deswegen gebe ich Geld für Vinylscheiben aus, um die zu vervielfältigen oder mir mp3s zu saugen?

Also, nach 10 Jahren kommen Rival Schools mit einem neuen Album zurück „Pedals„. Rival Schools waren und sind keine Unbekannten, es gibt Walter Schreifels, Sammy Siegler, Ian Love und Cache Tolman. Alles keine unbeschriebenen Blätter. Ihre United By Fate LP hat mir damals super gefallen und so war es eine Freude ein neues Lebenszeichen mitzubekommen. Bevor ich die neue Platte mein eigen nennen konnte, durfte ich Rival Schools live in München sehen und das hat mir gefallen. Nun bei Hören der Platte sticht natürlich ganz klar die Stimme von Walter Schreifels ins Gehör. Die Songs sind gut arrangiert, auch relativ verschieden und haben alles was die erste Platte auch hatte, nun der Kritikpunkt: aber bisher für mich nicht mehr. Es ist eindeutig Rival Schools, aber wenn’s im Finger juckt, ziehe ich dann doch Unity By Fate aus dem Regal.

RIVAL SCHOOLS - Pedlas

Ten years after, hehehe. Rival Schools are back! Back with the original line up (Ian Love, Walter Schreifels, Cache Tolman, Sammy Siegler), was there ever another line up? and a new album. I saw Rival Schools live in Munich before I got hold of “Pedals” and the show was great! While listening to the new record I can say it has everything what a Rival Schools record had so far, great voice of Walter Schreifels, good production, different and good arranged songs, kind of the first record and this is my critic: Pedals just does not get me like Unity By Fate did. While going to my record collection I prefer taking the old one out.
