Make Do And Mend

Neue Band für mich und das erste mal in Europa unterwegs: Make Do And Mend aus Boston USA. James Carroll + Matt Carroll + Mike O’Toole + Mike Poulin sind allgemein noch nicht so lange unterwegs, konnten in Amerika mit Ihrem Album End Measured Mile jedoch für einige Aufmerksamkeit sorgen. Beim Konzert gab es ziemlich schlechtes Licht, kombiniert mit der kleinen Kamera, na ja…

New band for me and the first time on the road in Europe: Make Do And Mend. Mike Poulin + James Carroll + Mike O’Toole + Matt Carroll are quite new in the music world but were able to catch some attention with their singles and their first album called End Measured Mile. Small camera and really bad light, not the best photos from my first date with Make Do And Mend.

Justin Sane

Wird der Punk Rock alt und müde oder nimmt er gerade eine Auszeit? Die Frage stellt sich mir gerade weil immer mehr Punk Rocker gerade Akustik gehen. Heute hatte ich die Freude Justin Sane im Kafe Marat zu hören und zu erleben. Bekannt ist Justin Sane eigentlich von seiner Politpunktruppe Anti Flag. Und hier solo und mit Akustikgitarre. Schön war es und was mir sehr gut gefallen hat, waren die Geschichten zwischen und zu den Liedern. Nebenan meinte doch einer zur Musik, das klingt schon sehr Clashig.

What is going on? Is Punk Rock getting old or just taking a break? Somehow it seems to me that there is a Punk goes acoustic virus? Anyway, I did not want to miss it! This night it was Justin Sane playing at the Kafe Marat in Munich. Did not had much to do with Anti Flag (his punk band) but it was a good show. What I really enjoyed beside the acoustic songs was that Justin Sane was telling lots of stories between and about the songs.

Irgendwie cool, die Band sehe ich eigentlich immer wenn ich Leatherface sehe. Bisher haben sich die Berührungspunkte (weder live noch auf Konserve) nicht anders ergeben. Doch als Vorband waren Zwei Tage : ohne Schnupftabak immer souverän. Kein Dumpfpunk, sondern was korrektes.
Aus Regensburg nach München und auf Rock The Cam taraaaaa – 2 Tage: Ohne Schnupftabak!

Funny thing, all the time I see Leatherface live I have the chance to see Zwei Tage : Ohne Schnupftabak as well. Somehow it did not work out in another way (not live not on record). Anyway, they are doing their own Punk Rock thing and it is cool to catch them live. From Regensburg to Munich and on Rock The Cam – two days without snuff (2 Tage ohne Schnupftabak)

Pierced Arrows 21.05.2008 Muffathalle München


Pierced Arrows

I coulda been famous, I coulda been rich, I coulda kissed the right ass made it in the press… been a smooth pop singer… played in soft rock bands. Dies sind Ausschnitte von einem Lied namens Sorrow’s Forecast, welches auf der Platte Stranded In The Mystery Zone erschienen ist (1991 Tombstone Records / Music Maniac Records). Und wer ist/war für diese Platte verantwortlich? Dead Moon. Und somit zurück zum Konzert in der Muffathalle, man nehme Fred Cole (guitar / vocals), Toody Cole (bass / vocals), Andrew Loomis (drums), tausche den Schlagzeuger mit Kelly Halliburton, tausche noch den Bandnamen Dead Moon zu Pierced Arrows und das war es. Sonst ändert sich wohl nichts, die Veröffentlichungen weiterhin auf Tombstone Records und natürlich in Mono. Keine Anpassung an Trends oder Industriegeschmäcker, kein verkaufter Arsch und auch keine Musik für den normalen Popfan oder Soft Rock Radiohörer. Nein, ganz einfach, dreckiger Garagen Punk Rock, am Besten live und laut. So war es auch beim Muffat Open. Kein Bühnenschnickschnack sondern Livemusik vom Feinsten. Ich hoffe meine Konzertfotos können etwas vom Pierced Arrows Feeling herüberbringen.

After Dead Moon dissolved, Fred Cole and Toody Cole got a new drummer named Kelly Halliburton and just changed the old band name to Pierced Arrows and here we go, a new band? But to tell the truth more or less nothing changed, fortunately! Still the same kind of music, still the same fantastic live feeling, still the same goose flesh. Pierced Arrows is the new Dead Moon and lucky me, I was able to catch them and take some concert pictures here in Munich. Hopefully the keep this shit running until they are 80!

Leatherface 08.06.2011 Feierwerk München


Leatherface

Ist das klasse, Leatherface mal wieder zu Gesicht zu bekommen. Leatherface (Frankie Stubbs – Gitarre + Gesang / Stephan Musch – Schlagzeug / Hammond Dickie – Gitarre und Philliskirk Graeme – Bass) haben eine neue Platte namens The Stormy Petrel raus (genial das Teil) und sind zum Glück auf Tour durch Deutschland. Die Kranhalle im Feierwerk war gut besucht und Leatherface spielten ein tolles Set. Ich kann es schlecht erklären, aber irgendwie passt da alles, es ist kein Gebolze, kein Punk, kein Rock, keine Radioschmuh, aber so ein Mix davon, von allem die besten Anteile raus. Trotz familiärem Theater bei Frankie Stubbs scheint es der Band und auch Ihm Laune gemacht zu haben und das Münchner Publikum war begeistert dabei. Ja so muss Livemusik sein und Morgen hoffentlich gleich nochmals!

Great to see Leatherface again. They have a new (new?) record out called The Stormy Petrel (I love it!) and they kick the road to play it live. And Frankie Stubbs, Philliskirk Graeme, Hammond Dickie and Stephan Musch not just played it but celebrated it (it seemed so to me). The Feierwerk was filled and the mood was good, so was Leatherface and it was another great gig from the Sunderland punks (is this still Punk? What is Punk?). Try to get them live and if everything works out fine, I will see Leatherface tomorrow again in Karlsruhe!
