FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM – Preacher Man – Rebel Records

Wie die Gitarre anfängt, sich steigert und dann kommt diese Stimme, McCoy’s tiefes Organ. Klasse, auch jetzt noch faszinierend, oder ist es nur weil ich mich gerade so jung fühle? Als Fields Of The Nephilim damals auf der Bildfläche erschienen sind, haben sie mächtig Staub aufgewirbelt (haha oder Mehl). Ihr Look ist/wurde nicht von allen gemocht (obwohl sie die Düsternummer ganz ordentlich durchgezogen haben), aber Preacher Man und Laura II sind schon klasse Nummern. Die Preacher Man contaminated version auf der 12″ vinyl Maxi ist auch korrekt, obwohl ich das Remixzeugs nicht wirklich nachvollziehen kann. Kurzum, ist eine tolle Maxi hier von 1987!

Uhhh, how the guitar starts and then the voice, Mc Coy at his best. The image of Fields Of The Nephilim isn’t what everybody liked/likes, but when their records came out, they made a big bang on the gothic, wave, dark guitar rock scene and not only there. Preacher Man is still a great song taking you into an undertow. Laura II on the b-side is another great piece of music.
Preacher Man contaminated version is as well on the 12″ but I’m not a fan of this remix stuff.

TYPE O NEGATIVE – Bloody Kisses – Roadrunner Records

Eine gewisse Stimmung sorgte beim Gang zum Plattenschrank, dass etwas Älteres zum Vorschein kommt. Type O Negative Bloody Kisses, oh wie habe ich diese Scheibe geliebt und ich freue mich gerade wieder an diesem musikalischen Erguss. Nicht so aggressiv wie Slow, Deep and Hard und The Origin Of The Feces, wo einem die Verzweiflung und Wut entgegen schlägt, nein, diesmal ist die Verzweiflung eher verpackt in ruhigere Töne (na ja). Viel Keyboardsounds, der Bass, die Gitarre und dann natürlich Peter Steele’s Stimme die Type O Negative so prägt. Bloody Kisses klingt zwischendurch schon wie rockige Gothmucke (Sisterstouch) hat aber auch den einen oder anderen HC Fetzer dabei. Ein Gefühlsfilm in dunklen Farben. Mit Black No 1 ist sogar ein richtiger Hit am Start, welcher die Band damals trotz aller politischen Diskussionen zu einer größeren Hörerschaft geführt hat.

Today I had a certain feeling and it was time to get out a classic album: Type O Negative – Bloody Kisses. Oh I loved it when it was released and while listening, I still love it. Slow, Deep and Hard and The Origin Of The Feces were hard and aggressive and you could feel the anger, but here the anger is mixed with desperation and out came this record. What a sound, of course the typical bass sound, the guitar and the outstanding voice of Peter Steele, but here the keyboards took over and did a great job, creating an incredible atmosphere. A musical film noir out of Mr. Steele’s dark thoughts. And I think that Black No 1 was even a little hit which entered a bit more the mainstream world. Don’t mistake lack of talent for genius.

Geile Motivsingle, sieht echt klasse aus. Darauf zu finden gibt es das Lied Columbus Feeling, welches vom aktuellen Album bekannt ist. Dies geht komisch los, wird dann aber eine typische Spermbirdsnummer – Just Be Yourself!
Und dann gibt es noch als exklusiven Verkaufsanreiz den Song Jobless Gun Collector: schnell, immer drauf und Lee’s Stimme, haben die Spermbirds mit Lee Hollis jemals was wirklich schlechtes rausgebracht?

Spermbirds -Tour -Vinyl picture

Great piece of vinyl artwork, the Spermbirds 7” tour single. Including two songs: Columbus Feeling is known from the album: starts a bit strange but ends up like a Spermbirds song. Then comes an exclusive one called Jobless Gun Collector, like all songs from Spermbirds with Lee, it is a good one. I have a copy but unfortunately just the looser format…

CYANIDE PILLS – Break It Up – Damage Goods

Lecker 7“ Vinyl in gelber Farbe und darauf präsentieren mir die Cyanide Pills 3 Songs. Klingt wie 76er 77er UK Punk Rock, als Vergleich fallen mir die Buzzcocks ein und auch The Damned. Break It Up ist eine geile Nummer die ins Ohr geht, Mailorder Bride auch und Stick Em Up ist dann einen Tick heftiger. Schöne Damaged Goods Scheibe der Cyanide Pills aus Leads.

A really good one, I like it! It is the yellow color 7” called Break It Up by the Cyanide Pills from Leads. For me it sounds like early British 77 Punk Rock, need some references? Buzzcocks and The Damned. Three songs (Break It Up / Mailorder Bride / Stick Em Up) and all are ready to go on a mixtape.

ALEXI MURDOCH – Towards The Sun – City Slang

Auf dem Alexi Murdoch CD Cover ist ein Turm in einem diesen umspannenden Gerüst zu sehen. Ganz cooles schwarz weiß Bild und soll wohl das Towards The Sun verdeutlichen, so interpretiere ich das mal. Zu hören gibt es auf der CD folgende sieben Lieder:

Alles im Songwriter Singer Stil, will heißen, es gibt eine Stimme und eine Akustikgitarre. Ich kenne mich in diesem Bereich nicht wirklich aus, doch die silberne Scheibe von Alexi Murdoch entfaltet Ihre ruhige Kraft. Schön ruhig und jetzt beim morgendlichen Aufstehen begleitet mich die Musik sanft in den Tag. Gleich gibt’s Frühstück und Repeat.

On the Towards The Sun -CD are seven songs. For me it is songwriter singer music, nice relaxing and good to wake up completely and preparing breakfast. Guess what: while having breakfast Alexi Murdoch is on repeat.

TWEAK BIRD – Tweak Bird – Souterrain Transmissions

Was für ein Name (Tweak Bird), was für ein Cover –was‘n das- Oben ohne motorradfahrende Vögel auf einer Kawasaki, einer davon noch mit Indianerfedern auf dem Kopf? OK, da liegt nun das Vinylbaby auf dem schönen Technics und ab geht es. Rock, Gitarre und die Schubladen gehen auf: Black Sabbath und dann gab es mal so eine Doom Metal Welle, mir fällt dazu noch Count Raven ein – gute Schiene also! Noch ein Schuss 70ies Rock dazu – passt. Zwischendurch gibt es noch Nachwehen von früheren Drogenversuchen „Round Trippin“, ein Hauch von Psychodelic, doch lässt sich die Scheibe schön durchhören. Keine wirkliche Neuerfindung, aber auch weit entfernt von Zeitverschwendung. Ach und zum Schluss noch die News, dass es sich hier um die Gebrüder Caleb und Ashton Bird (Vögel also, hab ich doch geschrieben) handelt und dass der Herr Dale Crover produziert hat.

Strange name (Tweak Bird) and strange cover (two half naked men driving through the landscape on a Kawasaki). And out comes the vinyl baby and on the record player. Rock, Stoner Rock, Doom Metal, Black Sabbath, Count Raven. Some influences of drug experiences with a psychedelic touch. Good to hear but no reinvention of the wheel. Tweak Bird are the brothers Ashton and Caleb Bird and the whole fun was produced by Dale Crover.
